Homemade Lye Soap

Making homemade lye soap sounds like one of these stories your grandmother tells, and it would make most of us think that homemade soap is a thing of the past. Many people would be surprised to learn that homemade lye soap is not only an extremely popular hobby, it's also an excellent small business opportunity! Homemade lye soap is not just for the older generation either, in fact younger craft enthusiasts are recognising the need to keep some of the old traditions, as well as finding new ideas for making homemade lye soap more attractive.

One of the great benefits of homemade lye soap is that it's completely natural and the only additional ingredients are whatever you decide to put in to it, so you don't need to worry about those nasty chemicals when your soap is homemade. Lye soap, without any added fragranced or perfumed oils, has been known to help ease skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. A problem with commercially produced soaps is that the glycerin is removed, whereas with homemade lye soap the moisturising properties are retained.

Homemade lye soap is used for much more than our skin. Different ways of mixing the ingredients makes the lye soap useful for removing fabric stains, cleaning furniture, floors and kitchen surfaces, and even as fish bait! Some people have also found that it can have a soothing effect on insect bites and can help to reduce dandruff.

Making homemade lye soap is not difficult, and done properly it can be a fun way to create your own soap products and save money at the same time. Start with a basic recipe and once you're feeling a bit more confident you can add in different oils and colors to give your homemade lye soap a prettier appearance. Most of the ingredients needed for making homemade lye soap can be found in your local grocery store or supermarket.

Creating your own homemade lye soap recipes can be a great way of making unique gifts for your family and friends. It will cost you very little and your friends will love the personal touch of receiving a gift made with your very own hands. The more you practice and experiment with your homemade lye soap ideas, the more creative you can become and you can even start to think about selling your wonderful new homemade soap bars.

Many people in today's society are looking for natural products to use on in their homes, and what better place to start than with homemade lye soap!

Grow Your Eyelashes

!±8± Grow Your Eyelashes

There has been a lot of recent buzz regarding growing eyelashes, making them fuller, and much more noticeable. For years, mascara has been the predominant way of making eyelashes thicker and more prominent. Recently, there has been a flood of new interest in other methods of promoting thicker, fuller lashes. New products have come to market, and interest in cosmetic surgery for eyelash thickening is peaking. Do these new topical treatments work? Is cosmetic surgery the only answer to fuller, healthier lashes? Let's cover what is currently out on the market for those wishing to try things other than mascara for more lustrous lashes.

Topical Treatments

New topical solutions have entered the market in an effort to promote healthier eyelash growth at the follicular base at the eyelid margin. The theory is that by nourishing and stimulating the eyelash follicle, extra growth may occur. Keep in mind that eyelash growth is genetically determined, and like hair on the head, its thickness, color, and distribution is determined by familial genes. However, as Rogaine is used to chemically stimulate hair growth and thicker hair, new eyelash products attempt to do the same thing. Whereas Rogaine has been scientifically proven to provide results through years of study, these newer products have not been scientifically proven and no truly predictable conclusions can be made about their effectiveness other than personal use and patient testimonials. The initial reviews have been fantastic and it is a fine idea to try these products to see if they work for you first before considering surgical or more invasive options. The leading products are:

LashGro by Revitalash MD

Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash

Osmotics FNS Nutrilash Lash & Brow Enhancer

With limited downside, inexpensive cost, and potential for excellent results, these products are excellent first options for you to achieve your thicker, fuller lashes!

Surgical Treatment

For years, eyelash transplantation was performed for burn / trauma victims who had lost the ability to grow eyelashes secondary to destroyed follicles. The surgery involves taking hairs from an androgen-independent area, such as the nape of the neck, and transplanting single follicles into the eyelid margin. Each hair removed from the neck is prepared microscopically and then inserted individually into the eyelid under local anesthesia. The procedure takes 1-2 hours and the costs can be quite substantial. These new eyelashes grow much like the hair on the back of the neck, and must be trimmed regularly as one would do for a haircut. Keep in mind that whatever type of hair you have on your head (thick, thin, curly, kinky) will also grow similarly from your eyelid. Please visit your plastic surgeon for a formal consultation to determine if this procedure is right for you.
